『銀河鉄道の夜』をイメージした本棚をつくった
天井まである背の高い本棚が欲しかったので、無垢材でつくってみました。 木材はSPFをつかっています。 本棚と合わせて机もいっしょにつくりました。 机は単体でもつかえるようになっていて、本棚にくっつけてつけてもいいし、自由に動かすこともできるようになっています。 文庫本がかなりの数入るのと、大型書籍も設置できるようになっています。 しっかり作ったので結構大変でした。 世界観は、『銀河鉄道の夜』（小説）をイメージしました。
Made a Bookshelf From Solid Wood
I wanted a tall bookshelf that reached the ceiling, so I built one from solid SPF wood. I also made a matching desk, which can be used separately or attached to the shelf. The bookshelf holds plenty of paperbacks and can fit large books as well. It was a lot of work to build it properly. The design was inspired by the world of Night on the Galactic Railroad.
本棚と机をセットでつくりました。 机が本棚の棚の高さとぴったり合うようになっていて、机が欲しい時は自由につけられるようになっています。 また、机がない時でも本棚単体として美しくなるようにデザインしています。 本棚の設計については、美しく見えるように、各棚の高さの比率や高さの並び方を工夫しています。 基本的には下を大きくして重たくし、棚の並び方やサイズはフィボナッチで計算してデザインすると見た目が安定します。
I built the shelf and desk as a set. The desk matches the shelf heights and can be attached or moved freely. Even without the desk, the bookshelf stands beautifully on its own. To make it visually balanced, I adjusted the proportions and arrangement of the shelves. The lower ones are larger and heavier, and I used the Fibonacci sequence to design the layout for a stable look.
机の下の位置にも大型書籍が入るので、机なしで使っても良いようになっています。 塗装については、オイルステインで調色して、少し赤みのある色をつくってオイルステインで着色してから、ワトコオイル ドリフトウッドを塗っています。 オイルステインを塗る前に、やすりで表面を綺麗にしてから塗っています。 これをやらないとムラだらけになるので、大変ですがやることをおすすめします。 背板もつくったのでかなり重量のある本棚になりました。
The space under the desk can also hold large-format books, so the bookshelf works well even without the desk. For the finish, I mixed oil stain to create a slightly reddish tone, applied it, and then coated it with Watco Oil Driftwood. Before staining, I carefully sanded the surface—this step is essential to avoid blotchiness, and although it takes time, I highly recommend it.
